Based on the belief that creative self expression through music is a profoundly effective way to strengthen relationships and build cultural bridges, Big Family plays concerts and conducts outreach events with venues, communities and populations that may not otherwise have access to live music. With the aim of bringing people together, Big Family performs an inspiring mix of heartfelt originals and a wide variety of songs from the vast and diverse American musical landscape, including folk music, classic Americana, protest songs, Jazz and popular song.
The members of Big Family are vocalist and songwriter, Dr. Kyle Knuppel, guitarist Matt Davis, and drummer, Ryan Ptasnik. Matt and Kyle grew up together in the same area of New Jersey, and have been playing music together for over 20 years. Both musicians have sought opportunities to share music with people from disadvantaged and vulnerable communities, such as low income and 'at risk' youth in underserved areas of Philadelphia and NYC, pediatric cancer patients at the Ronald MacDonald House in NYC, and various similarly underserved communities abroad. Through the music world, they met Ryan in 2013 and eventually began collaborating as a trio. All three members share a strong desire to use music as a way to affect positive change in our world.
More performances and events are taking shape for 2018. Stay tuned and thanks for checking in. You may also visit our Facebook page for more information.
